Dear Residents,
With winter weather forecasted for our area this weekend, the Village of Marvin wants to ensure all residents are informed and prepared. We encourage you to take proactive steps now to ensure the safety of your household and neighbors.
Road Operations and Maintenance: To manage expectations regarding travel, please be aware of the Village’s standard winter weather operating procedures:
- Plowing: The Village of Marvin does not routinely plow snow on municipal streets; however, a contract crew is on standby for this event should conditions warrant. We will continuously monitor and consult with emergency services to determine need.
- Salt and Brine: Pre-treatment and de-icing efforts are targeted for emergency access vehicles. Salt and brine will only be applied to specific areas of concern. Applications will take place Thursday-Friday and reassessed continuously throughout the storm. These include high-incline roads and shaded areas that are known to be problematic for emergency response vehicles.
We strongly advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel once precipitation begins. Staying off the roads allows emergency crews to navigate more safely and prevents accidents on icy or slushy surfaces.
How to Prepare: We recommend reviewing your home emergency kits and ensuring you have adequate supplies, including:
- Non-perishable food and water for at least three days.
- Flashlights and extra batteries.
- Fully charged mobile devices and external power banks.
- Necessary medications and pet supplies.
