The Union County Planning Board heard the case for the Aventon Apartments rezoning proposal earlier this week. The proposal was for 310 apartments on 19 acres at the SW corner of New Town Road and Providence Road. At their March 2 meeting the Union County Planning Board vote unanimously to deny the rezoning proposal. The Union County Board of County Commissioners will hear this proposal at a future date, most likely in April. We will keep residents informed about this future meeting once the date is confirmed.
While this property was in unincorporated Union County, it affected many Village of Marvin residents as the proposal was directly adjacent to corporate limits and would have massively impacted traffic and public schools within Marvin.
The Village of Marvin Council took great effort to represent the many voices of Marvin to oppose this development and directed staff to assist in community efforts. Without this multi-directional approach, I am not sure we would have had the same outcome. I want thank all those community leaders and groups that put together efforts in opposition of this project as well as Village staff and Council for all their efforts.
