Charlotte Water withdraws from Lake Norman and Mountain Island Lake on the Catawba River basin (source basin) in North Carolina. The water is treated and distributed to customers, used, collected, and treated at Charlotte Water’s wastewater treatment plants, and a portion of the treated wastewater is discharged to the Yadkin-PeeDee River basin (receiving basin). The portion discharged to the Yadkin-PeeDee River basin is permitted through an interbasin transfer (IBT) certificate.

Charlotte Water is inviting stakeholders to provide comments on its proposed modification to the existing 2002 interbasin transfer certificate. In addition, Charlotte Water is also hosting three upcoming public meetings to receive comments.

For details and meeting locations, please see the attached Notice of Public Meetings or visit CharlotteWaterIBT.org.
